About Us ...

OVERVIEW

PixSil Technology Corporation was founded in January 2002 with the goal of providing superior video compression technology and configurable semiconductor-based solutions for a broad range of digital video applications. Our mission is “to be the premier supplier of Semiconductor-based solutions for broadband multimedia applications.” PixSil Technology is a privately held, fabless semiconductor company, featuring expertise in video compression, DSP & image processing, parallel computing, TCP/IP and wireless networking technology.

The management and engineering team at PixSil, has extensive experience in creating innovative, highly integrated System-on-Chip (SOC) solutions for consumer and commercial markets. PixSil's team has worked together successfully for many years at other companies in Southern California. Each member of the team brings their unique talent in engineering, management, and business to form the corporation of PixSil Technology.

Leveraging its technology and experience across a wide range of markets, PixSil Technology provides advanced features and unprecedented levels of integration, performance and quality, enabling complete, scalable and highly configurable multimedia communication systems. PixSil Technology has its headquarters in Newport Beach, California.

MARKET TRENDS

The most compelling applications for future mobile and Web-enabled devices will be imaging based, whether capturing video for e-mail or videophones, or receiving an audio/video stream from the Internet or another caller. Imagine watching the Lord of the Rings - not in the movie theater but over an Internet protocol (IP) network on a Web-enabled device, with crystal clear video image quality. Or watching a movie clip on your mobile phone before deciding on which film to see one afternoon, or receiving a video e-mail on your Dick Tracy watch will soon be no pipe dream. A quiet revolution is also occurring in the security and surveillance (CCTV) world, where surveillance and monitoring systems are moving from analog video to IP network video using the latest digital video compression technology, thereby replacing the blotchy security video seen on TV crime shows with crisp, high-quality images that can be viewed and searched around the world.

To meet the challenges unique to video transmission over IP networks, content providers and network operators are adopting MPEG-4 to provide high-quality video over a network with limited, variable bandwidth. MPEG-4 includes state-of-the-art compression techniques, which allow it to provide greater compression and higher quality than earlier standards. A new extension to MPEG-4 standard, called MPEG-4 part 10, is expected to be completed by year’s end, and promises to improve coding efficiencies by 50 percent and achieve resolutions ranging from [standard-definition] TV to HDTV and digital cinema. Already, a number of consumer product industries are adopting the MPEG-4 part 10 and are applying it to the existing and futuristic systems: from mobile phones, PDAs and camcorders for wired and wireless video communications to digital set-top boxes or personal computers for interactive TV applications and streaming-media content delivered via the Internet. They include advanced DVD players that will play back high-definition movies with interactive content and personal video recorders storing high-quality audio/video files.

In short, we see great market opportunities in the following applications for tomorrow’s multimedia consumer devices:
  • Handheld Information Appliances
    • Mobile Phone, PDA, Data Terminal, Web Pad
    • Make video calls, send/receive video emails over wireless network
  • 3-D Video conferencing
    • Improved video quality using same video-link bandwidth
    • Improved communication and collaboration among project teams separated by geography
    • Avoid risks of business travel (loss of productivity, cost, safety)
  • Video surveillance over Internet & wireless network
    • Networked cameras and PDA-like devices will provide electronic eyes for security purposes at government & commercial buildings, airports, ball parks and stadiums, school yards & campuses, even at home (nanny watch)
  • Automotive Telematics & Infotainment
    • Send and receive high quality video bit-stream over internet
    • Watch video-on-demand movies on long trips or while camping
